The condition causes abnormalities in the iris, so those who have that condition have one eye with a different color than the other.

While this condition can be caused by inbreeding, genetic inheritance, and mutation, in some breeds of cats, such as the Turkish Angora, it is a desirable trait so the breeders try to maintain it.

There’s also another type of heterochromia called ‘segmental heterochromia’ and it causes different colors in the same eye.

Inherited heterochromia is harmless, and both humans and animals can have this condition.
